Al Ain Hospital of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company "SEHA" has launched the first device of its kind in the UAE, for a computerized axial tomography (computed tomography) scan. The new device helps diagnose viral pneumonia caused by infection with the emerging coronavirus (Covid 19).
The introduction of the new 16-slice mobile CT scan device for imaging Covid-19 patients came in the interest of "SEHA" to provide high-quality medical care according to the highest standards, and in the context of its efforts to combat the emerging corona virus and early detection.
The new device is used to image the lungs of Covid-19 patients with very high accuracy, which contributes to the early detection of any changes in the lungs resulting from infection with the virus. Imaging has been performed using this device for about 3000 patients since it was launched at the beginning of last April until now.
Dr. Jamal Al-Din Al-Qutaish, Head of the Institute of Radiology and Consultant Interventional Radiologist at SEHA's Al Ain Hospital, said that this device provides images with very high accuracy. It is also characterized by speed and provides a clear picture to the treating doctor of the extent of lung damage and early detection of any changes in the lungs, which helps the doctor in giving the appropriate treatment to the patient.
He added that this advanced device works with smart reduced radiation dose technology, reduced contrast media technology, and rapid dynamic volume technology for rapid detection of lung injury.
The device can image eight patients per hour and is completely safe. It is used to photograph patients infected with the emerging corona virus without any contact, whether between patients or between patients and radiology technicians who perform the imaging process.
