Dr Jamal AlKoteesh is one of the founder of Interventional Radiology speciality in UAE as he is the longest served (15 YEARS) Interventional Radiologist in SEHA/Abu Dhabi Emirates .He was the first DOH licensed Interventional Radiologists in Abu Dhabi Emirates.
Dr. AlKoteesh started working in SEHA as the chief of Interventional Radiology at Sheikh Khalifa Medical city between 2007-2010 where he also managed and established the first Radiology Residency Program in Abu Dhabi Emirate and become the first Radiology residency program director in 2009 when took the challenge to train UAE junior doctors to become the Radiologists of the future.
He moved to Alain hospital in 2010 to establish the Interventional Radiology service where he built one of the busiest Interventional Radiology unit in the region then he was appointed as Chairman of Radiology since 2012.
Dr AlKoteesh was appointed in 2013-2014 by SEHA as the Regional Chairman of Clinical Imaging department of Both Tawam and Alain Hospitals to lead the Radiology integration in the Eastern region of Abu Dhabi Emirates then in Jan 2020 he was selected as a Member of New Alain hospital Steering committee to lead the Radiology transition into the new hospital.
He has been member of Abu Dhabi/SEHA Radiology council and SEHA Stroke committee for many years.
He has been selected recently in 2021 as Head of Interventional Radiology Clinical Reference group at SEHA - Abu Dhabi.
He has been an invited expert IR speaker in more than 200 national and international conferences.
In Sep 2020 he was selected again by Tawam /SEHA Senior leaders as Chairman of Radiology for Tawam &Alain hospitals to manage the largest Radiology Department in the UAE with more than 25 Radiologists to Cover the Two SEHA hospitals in the region Alain Hospital/Tawam Hospital at a difficult time during the COVIDE19 Pandemic.
Since the start of the current Coronavirus COVID 19 pandemic in January 2020 Dr Alkoteesh has lead an army of Radiologists and Radiographers in Abu Dhabi Eastern region to compact this hidden enemy. The Radiology team has performed and reported more than 15000 HR-CT Chest and 300 000 CXR on Covid 19 patients in addition to many Interventional Radiology procedures on those patients..
Dr. AlKoteesh undertook his higher speciality training in Radiology at University Hospital of Wales in UK in 1997 at All Wales higher training scheme then worked as a consultant in the UK for 6 years.
He has worked in many well-recognized International hospitals: Prince Philip hospital in Wales; West Wales General Hospital, Cork University Hospital in Ireland and King Fahad National Guard Hospital (KAMC) in Riyadh; KSA, Sheikh Khalifa Medical city SKMC-Cleveland in the UAE; Alain Hospital and Tawam Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) UK since 1999, and member of the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE). He is holder of the European Board in Interventional Radiology EBIR.
He has special interests in vascular intervention', Carotid and Aortic stenting; hepatobiliary interventions; TIPS, Arterial and venous embolization, TACE, Tumour Radiofrequency ablation; urological Interventional procedures; uterine fibroid embolization; scrotal varicocele embolization, Prostate artery embolization ;acute stroke interventions and diabetic foot salvage by interventional procedures.
Dr AlKoteesh has performed more the 50 000 interventional radiology procedures in the UAE during the last 15 years of service at SEHA major hospitals: SKMC, Tawam and Alain Hospitals.
He has performed many unique IR procedures including TIPS procedure in 4y old child; IVC Filter in 7y old; 80 acute stroke interventions including 15years old boy; 90 penile venous leak embolization; 80 prostate artery embolizations and 900 UFE/UAE procedures.
He has been editorial board members and reviewer of Cardio-Vascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR) Journal (CIRSE's official journal) since 2013 and a Member of editorial advisory board for AuntMinnie Middle East since 2014.
