ABU DHABI, 21 February / WAM/ The participants in the Ninth International Conference on Radiology, organized by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company "SEHA", over two days, stressed the importance of benefiting from the results of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and harnessing artificial intelligence in radiology to diagnose and treat patients.

 

At the conclusion of their work today, the participants in the conference recommended the necessity of coordination between the legislative, executive and supervisory authorities in Abu Dhabi in the field of protection from ionizing radiation with the aim of unifying national policies, procedures and regulations for radiation protection, and stressed the need to focus on raising the efficiency of workers in this field through continuous training and commitment to quality control as part of Standard working procedures.

 

The radiology specialists called for adding the use of the interventional neuroradiology technique in diagnosing and treating acute strokes caused by blockage of the large cerebral arteries and following the optimal methods for treating aortic aneurysms between surgery and covered catheters in light of international recommendations and taking into account the economic aspect when making a decision.

The conference also recommended the use of inert gases in arterial imaging instead of dyes to reduce their effects on the kidneys, as carbon dioxide gas proved highly effective in imaging the lower extremity arteries, as well as the need to increase training activities for radiologists and increase their abilities to absorb the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment through repeated workshops and seminars And the need for continuous cooperation between universities and research centers in conducting research of interest to the UAE issue through multi-center research, which is the type of research known for its high credibility and acceptance in international periodicals with a high impact factor. The lecturers also stressed the need to use the latest cardiac imaging methods for patients with coronary and pulmonary arteries. Dr. Raqwana Baharoun, a nuclear medicine consultant at SEHA’s Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, reviewed the results of the study she conducted with a medical research team on thyroid nodules that cause thyroid cancer. The study showed that the prevalence of nodules in the thyroid gland is high among Asian nationalities residing in Abu Dhabi, with a prevalence of 16.8%, and Arab nationalities with a prevalence of 10%, and the lowest among Emiratis with a prevalence of 9.6%, noting that the global percentage of nodules in the thyroid gland ranges between 4-8%, as the study showed The prevalence of nodules in the thyroid gland is more in women than in men, and that if men were in the prime of life, the rate of transformation of nodules into a tumor was high, while if men were middle-aged, 2.4% of them transformed the node into a cancerous tumor
